Survive

By  Melodie Clarke

Survive

Looking out the darkness

His harsh whispers terrorizing

You through that shattering hour

Survive

Bruises on skin

Blooming like

A repulsive flower

Survive

Holding in your tears until

You thought your head

Would explode with the pain

Survive

Ignoring the insults

The curses until there

Was only the echo

Of their words

Lingering in the air

Survive

Biding time until

Escape became available

Survive

Like the blood flowing

Down your neck from

The cold steel blade

Slicing through skin

Like tissue paper

Survive

To survive the evil

Perpetuated against you

Until you can leave

Survive

Until you can leave

The evil that coats

Your skin like oil

Floating on the water

Survive

Survive until you

Can live in the light

The brightness of the day

Leaving the darkness behind

Survive
